The community of Nova Scotia is mourning the death of Julie Diana Shore, the beloved co-founder of J.D. Shore Spirits, associated with Halifax Distilling Co. Her passing has left her family, business team, friends, and the wider community heartbroken as they remember the woman behind the brand.
Julie’s legacy extended far beyond the bottles bearing her name. She was remembered for her infectious smile, unmistakable laugh, and generous heart. Through the people she welcomed, the friendships she treasured, and the joy she brought to others, Julie made those around her feel valued and special.
Together, Julie and Arla built J.D. Shore Spirits around family tradition, a love of the Maritimes, and a belief in bringing people together. Their shared dream became a meaningful part of their lives and the community they served, creating connections that extended beyond the business itself.
Following the announcement of Julie’s passing, Jacob Rafuse expressed heartbreak on behalf of his family at Station DRG and members of Nova Scotia’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community. He praised Julie and Arla for their love and support for their community and family, saying the memories they made with Julie would be cherished forever. Arla and the J.D. Shore team have asked for time and space to grieve before continuing the legacy Julie helped build.
